The Persistent Desktop Goose: A Prank That’s Gone Too Far

Have you ever encountered a Software prank that spiraled out of control? One user on Reddit has shared their frustrating experience with the infamous Desktop Goose, a whimsical program that spawns a digital goose on your screen—harmless yet undeniably pesky. What began as a lighthearted prank has turned into a relentless battle, and it appears this particular goose is not flying away anytime soon.

Our protagonist, a proud builder of their own Windows 10 desktop PC, initially found humor in the Desktop Goose’s antics. But after attempting to eliminate the program through task manager, the goose resurfaced with alarming regularity. The frustration multiplied as repeated deletions from file explorer and even attempts in Windows Safe Mode failed to eradicate the problem. Despite taking extensive precautions to safeguard their computer from unauthorized use, the goose continues to make unpredictable and unwelcome appearances—about once a day, as if mocking the user’s growing exasperation.

What makes the situation even more perplexing is the suggestion that someone might be reinstalling the program. However, given the extensive security measures taken, that theory seems increasingly unlikely. The user has delved into tutorials and tech forums in search of a definitive solution, only to come across the same tired advice: end the task or delete the program.

Now, fueled by desperation, they fear that this seemingly benign prank is edging toward the realm of torment. The joy of the unexpected joke has faded, replaced by a creeping dread that the Desktop Goose might invade their dreams at night.

If you’ve found yourself in a similar predicament, or if you have insights into this perplexing issue, your help would be invaluable. The goal here is simple: to find a permanent solution to this pesky problem. If the Desktop Goose has made its way into your life and you know how to send it back to the virtual pond from which it came, please share your wisdom. Let’s help our fellow PC enthusiast reclaim their sanity before the goose becomes an unwelcome nighttime companion!

  1. Reclaiming Control from the Desktop Goose!

It sounds like you’re really in a bind with the Desktop Goose! This quirky little program can indeed become a headache when it doesn’t just stay put or if it keeps reappearing. Luckily, I have some suggestions that might help you get rid of it for good.

Firstly, it’s essential to ensure you have deleted all instances of the Desktop Goose program properly. Here are the steps you can follow:

    1. Use Task Manager: Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and look for any processes related to “Desktop Goose”. If you find any, end the task.
    2. Uninstall from Program & Features: Go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features. Look for “Desktop Goose” in the list of installed programs and uninstall it.
    3. Delete Residual Files: After uninstalling, navigate to File Explorer and ensure there are no leftover files. Check locations like:
      • C:\Users\\AppData\Local\
      • C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\
      • C:\Program Files\
  2. Has it actually made you go insane and now you are just imaginining it’s reappearance? As far as I know the difference between sanity and insanity is the act of doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result, so if you have tried to remove it more than once and it has not worked, then it is too late – you have already gone insane. Once you have confirmed your insanity then you must take action immediately. Walk outside onto the sidewalk and start screaming as aloud as you can. This will let the authorities know that you have made the necessary checks, and that you have confirmed your self as officially insane, and thet you are requiring immediate medical isolation from your surroundings. Then you must remove your clothes, and smother yourself in duck-fat and start refering to yourself as ‘slippery suzie’ whilst you run around randomly, as the Police fail to secure a grip upon you. This is expected and will not make them angry or upset. Finally you will need to proceed to the nearest supermarket and buy a packet of matches for warmth, as you no longer have clothes. Good luck my friend. Lots of love, Captain Gweneth.
